Introduction

Lessons Learned harkens to the years when I worked in the Power Supply Division of Southern California Edison.  I’ll never forget the first day I walked into a power plant for a job interview and was given a tour of the plant.  The impact of sight and sound, the massive weight of the surroundings, equipment, and energy production was over whelming; but it was exciting!

My career with SCE introduced me to some of the most colorful people and interesting experiences imaginable. I learned so much in my daily encounter with machinery, men and women working together to perform a single vital task of keeping the lights on in service to our families and community. But even though that task had a single focus, there was an endless array of functions and activities that almost defy description. All in all, the 24/7, day in and day out, never ending activity garnered endless stories and lessons learned; morality tales big and small as individuals encountered and overcame difficulties with equipment and personnel in ever changing and demanding circumstances. All this presented challenging problems and yes, opportunities.

“Problems we face are nothing more than opportunities in disguise” – John Adams

Someone once suggested that I capture these stories and illustrations in some chronicle or written form. I often repeat these lessons learned when I’m teaching, mentoring, counseling, or encouraging others in their personal development or Christian walk.  That suggestion gave me an idea of writing a devotional book based on those lessons learned.  This blog is a first step in that direction.

Nothing is better for a man than that he should eat and drink, and that his soul should enjoy good in his labor. This also, I saw, was from the hand of God. (Ecc. 2:24)

Lessons Learned is about my reminiscing’s and musings from the past, When I Worked for Edison (WIWFE).
